Liberty Crescent Path: Safer, smoother connection for Beachlands

October 9, 2025

Locals in Beachlands will soon be able to cycle, walk or run to Liberty Park thanks to a new concrete path which has now been completed giving Beachlands residents a smoother connection as part of the Franklin Paths Programme.

The 131-metre path will replace the old gravel track with a 1.6-metre-wide concrete surface, designed for walkers, cyclists, prams, and mobility users. It also connects through to Constellation Park, filling a missing link in the local footpath network.

Franklin Local Board Chair Angela Fulljames says she is pleased to see progress in Beachlands. “It’s a practical improvement that will make journeys easier and safer, while also encouraging more people to enjoy walking and cycling through our local parks.”

Construction began on 1 October and was completed over three days, with work staged to reduce disruption for residents and park users. Once cured the path will re-open around mid-October.

The Liberty Crescent Path is more than just an infrastructure upgrade, it’s a key step towards better connectivity across Beachlands. The path links into the wider local network, improving community access to parks and strengthening connections between neighbourhoods.

The new path supports the Franklin Local Board’s focus on better local connections and more active transport options, giving residents a reliable way to get around without depending on cars.

Locals can enjoy smoother access to parks and shared spaces, making it easier to get outside, stay active, and connect with their neighbourhood.

About the Paths Programme
The Liberty Crescent Path is part of the Franklin Local Board Targeted Rate Paths Programme. Funded by a local targeted rate, the programme is delivering 38 new path projects over the next 10 years to improve connections, encourage walking and cycling, and support community well-being and climate action. It is led by the Franklin Local Board with support from Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, and local communities.
