A decade-long plan to improve footpaths and crossings across Franklin is officially underway. With formal approval from the Franklin Local Board and Auckland Council, the first phase of the Franklin Paths Programme has entered the delivery stage.
Initial projects include upgrades in Pukekohe, Patumahoe, Clarks Beach, Clevedon, and Waiuku. The aim is to improve safety, encourage walking, and enhance local connectivity.
Board Chair Angela Fulljames says it’s a much-needed investment:
“Safe footpaths and recreational routes are an investment in the future of Franklin.”
Across Auckland, nearly 4,000 submissions were received. Common themes from supporters included:
- The benefits of paths and trails
- Requests for more local routes
- Strong community ownership of the idea
Board Chair Angela Fulljames says the proposal reflects grassroots energy: “Smaller communities in particular want to help deliver these projects themselves.”
