Project:
Location:
Pukekohe Priority Route 8B – Pukekohe Hill Reserve
We’re progressing early planning for Priority Route 8B in Pukekohe, exploring opportunities to improve walking and cycling access in the Hilltop Road, Bayly Road and Anzac Road and Kitchener Road area.
What’s Happening
The project has progressed into the planning phase, and concept design development has now begun.
Recent work includes:
- A site walkover with Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua to understand cultural, environmental and landscape considerations that will help guide the project
- Early engagement with iwi to identify values, sensitivities, and preferred approaches for the corridor
- Early engagement with Franklin Local Board members to share initial findings and gather local insights.
- Progressing the first stages of concept design, informed by site conditions and iwi feedback
This work is helping shape the initial alignment and identify constraints before it progresses onto the next design stages
What’s Changing
As planning progresses, we are exploring:
- Opportunities to create a safe, off‑road walking and cycling connection where feasible
- Options to improve or fill missing path links around Hilltop Road, Bayly Road, Anzac Road and Kitchener Road
More detailed alignment options will be shared as concept design develops.
Why It Matters
- Provides safer walking and cycling options
- Supports access to schools, parks, and neighbourhoods
- Connects into the wider Pukekohe path network and future development areas
